What is a Power Song and where do I get mine?

Written by Shaman Maggie Wahls

Power Songs are oral prayers expressing your true self, your nature, your individuality, your power. All cultures have power songs but you can have your own power song too. We think of the power in a hymn or an African chant, a Shamanic ceremony song or even in the howling of wolf. And there is definite power in sound.

All Shamans have several power songs because the vibration of the notes in the voice and in the fourth chakra of the throat stimulate sympathetic vibrations in the universe to respond. Everything is connected. What you put out comes back to you. When a butterfly flutters his wings in Cost Rica the winds of Africa are stirred. And when a sound is offered, the universe responds.

Power songs are used in preparation for journeying, healing, offering Reiki, praying, grounding, for protection, for celebration, for solace, anytime you want to connect with the universe in this very special way.

To demonstrate the power of voice and musical notes I would like to you try this exercise.

The fourth chakra is the note FA as in Do Re Me FA. Find a piano and discover the sound of this note if possible. Or find your own closest approximation to it. It is important to find the sound of FA.

The fourth note or sound of FA is also the note of manifestation or creation upon this planet. So if we want to manifest healing, for example, we can send our intention out upon the note FA into the universe and healing will resonate with our voice of FA and become manifest where we are intending. It really is that simple.

Don't try to complicate it like so many others have. This little simple secret is one that some people have paid thousands of dollars for. Some people have made millions creating musical tapes based on the sound of Fa, subliminal, holosync tapes that offer healing are based on the sound FA. But now you know how to do it yourself.

The visual symbol for the universe made manifest is the square. This symbolizes the power of thought and vibration becoming solid and material in this apparent world. So let’s combine the sound of Fa with the visualization of a square.

Get yourself someplace comfortable where you will not be disturbed for a while. Close your eyes and visualize a square. Intone the sound FA and watch the square and see what image appears there.

You can also do this backwards by visualizing the person you want to heal in the square and intoning the sound of FA. Or anything that you would like to manifest for the good of yourself and the world.

Shamans use this technique all the time. The last ingredient the Shaman uses here is desire or strong will. He or she really wants this healing to happen, they can really feel the wish, they put all their emotional energy into the intent.

I often get to dancing and rattling while I intone my power song and bring my whole body into the act of intending a healing for someone. The more feeling you put into it, the stronger the vibration.

Have you ever listened to a Native American song? There is usually one major tone for the song, isn't there! Now you know why!

As a final thought, each note in the scale represents a unique vibratory pattern in the universe. You could do a study to find those out if you would like to know more about sound.

So you see the need for your own power song. Create one this week. It is usually just a line or two repeated over and over. You can use words or vowels or an imaginary language. As long as you create it with FA as your base and emotion and intent, it will be perfect. Power songs are usually kept private and seldom sung in public. The only time they are sung in public is when a group of Shamans have gathered to do a combined healing. It is your prayer to the universe

I needed to share this with everyone.

Conscious Change

Pause a moment from whatever you are doing...Be with this moment...take a slow, deep breath and breathe into your belly... As you read these words notice your breathing...Notice your body... What are you thinking ?... How are you feeling?... Is there any tension in your body?… If so, where ?… Take a moment to breathe into that tension…Relax… Let it go…Just Be.
You are constantly changing. Until more recently inner change occurred without much conscious awareness. Now many people are awakening and with this comes a new POWER, the power to change consciously, with your intention.
No longer do you have to believe that you are a victim. As you learn how to co-create with Spirit, you will become more attuned to the laws of nature and the universe. This knowledge will help you navigate through life more skillfully even in times of change and turmoil.
There are many tools to help you make positive changes. Being mindful as in the opening relaxation is one of them. The following are four more of my favorites.
Learn How to Manage Your Energy
Are you highly sensitive? Do you feel what others feel? In today’s world your life gets bombarded with a myriad of outside stimuli, from toxins in the air to the daily stresses of life. Learn what your body and spirit need by finding ways to nurture your inner self. This means recognizing when your energy system has become overloaded or depleted then taking time to relax and rejuvenate. There are different ways you can do this such as scheduling regular massages, taking healing baths, meditating, practicing yoga and going on retreats. Taking time to recharge your energy will prove to be an efficient tool to help you maintain health and wellness while in the midst of inner changes.
Transform Negative Self-Talk
Become aware of self-doubt, self-judgment and other types of negative thinking that erode your self-esteem and keep you from actualizing your potential. Your thoughts exert a powerful influence on your well being. Consistent negative thinking dampens your spirit and keeps you from manifesting your heart’s desire. It has also proven to lower your immune system thus contributing to health problems.
Learn to balance negative thinking with self-acknowledgment.  If you catch yourself entertaining negative thoughts, simply acknowledge the awareness then replace with a positive affirmation.
Over time you will find that your negative self-talk diminishes resulting in increased self-esteem, improved health and a better outlook on life. All will ease the process of change.

Add Light to a Situation
You can transform a situation by adding light to it. Light accelerates your growth and attracts your higher good. If you are not sure what you want or how to solve a problem create a symbol for it. Then surround your symbol with a ball of white light.  Imagine the light illuminating your symbol and smoothing out any rough edges.  Adding light in this way will bring clarity and ease the process of change.
Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude
Finally, be grateful for every beneficial change no matter how small. You can even begin by appreciating all that you have right now. Expressing gratitude promotes awareness, increases your connection to Source and expands your ability to receive from the Universe. It is one of the best ways to bring more good into your life.
Try incorporating these tools into your daily life. Change, even conscious change, often happens subtly over time. You will need to have patience and perseverance. However, the rewards are great.

11 Tips for Exercising Regularly

1. Always exercise on Monday. This sets the psychological pattern for the week. Along those lines …
2. If at all possible, exercise first thing in the morning. As the day wears on, you’ll find more excuses to skip exercising. Get it checked off your list, first thing.
3. Never skip exercising two days in a row. You can skip a day, but the next day, you must exercise, no matter how inconvenient.
4. Give yourself credit for the smallest effort. My father always said that all he had to do was put on his running shoes and close the door behind him. Many times, by promising myself I could quit ten minutes after I’d started, I got myself to start—and then found that I didn’t want to quit, after all.
5. Think about context. I thought I disliked weight training, but in fact, I dislike the guys who hang out in the weight-training area. Are you distressed about the grubby showers in your gym? Do you try to run in the mornings, but recoil from going out in the cold? Examine the factors that might be discouraging you from exercising.
6. Exercise several times a week. If your idea of exercise is to join games of pick-up basketball, you should be playing practically every day. Twice a month isn’t enough.
7. If you don’t have time to both exercise and take a shower, find a way to exercise that doesn’t require you to shower afterward. Twice a week, I have a very challenging weight-training session, but the format I follow doesn’t make me sweat. (Some of you are saying, “It can’t be challenging if you don’t sweat!” Oh yes, believe me, it is.)

8. Look for affordable ways to make exercising more pleasant or satisfying. Could you upgrade to a nicer or more convenient gym? Buy yourself a new iPod? Work with a trainer? Get a pedometer to keep track of your walking distances? Exercise is a high life priority, so this a worthwhile place to spend some money if that helps.

9. Think of exercise as part of your essential preparation for times you want to be in especially fine form—whether in performance (to be sharp for an important presentation) or appearance (to look good for a wedding) or mood (to deal with a stressful situation). Studies show that exercise does help.

10. Remember one of my favorite Secrets of Adulthood, courtesy of Voltaire: Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Don’t decide it’s only worth exercising if you can run five miles or if you can bike for an hour. I have a friend who scorns exercise unless she’s training for a marathon—so she never exercises. Even going for a ten-minute walk is worthwhile. Do what you can.

11. Don’t kid yourself. Belonging to a gym doesn’t mean you go to the gym. Having been in shape in high school or college doesn’t mean you’re in shape now. Saying that you don’t have time to exercise doesn’t make it true.

..now i need to put these into practise.. v_v;;

I am well aware that, frequently, a Reiki treatment does nothing more than elicit the ‘relaxation response’ within the client, because frequently, the client requires nothing more than to un-wind, un-worry, breathe freely and calmly, and surrender to their own amazing inherent powers of self-healing.

New Developments

I am now a Level 1 Reiki practitioner, or rather I have been fully attuned on the 29th of May, 2011. My journey has just begun and I am very happy. I can feel the energy shift within myself. My aim is to become a practitioner professionally, however, I am content currently to be offering it to my family, friends, pets, plants and myself.

The Five Precepts:

Today, release all anger
Be free of worry
Show gratitude
Be diligent in all your undertakings
Treat all living beings with kindness

Love, light and Reiki blessings

Divination! ... and more?

Hallo everyone..
My last post was about being sad, confused and overwhelmed.. Since then, I have received help and comfort from a few sources. I will give a shoutout to Solael from www.paganspace.net and her own wonderful online communities, Woad Jade Wolf, also from www.paganspace.net and to Pandora right here who gave a link to an awesome online community. It feels wonderful to know that people will take their time out to help someone else. It shows that human nature isn't evil. Some people just stray from the lighter paths and delve into the darker areas without light. Dwelling in shadow, however isn't a bad path.. it's just a combination of light and dark.. you can't have shadow without light.
So again Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now on to my quick topic of divination.
I developed an interest in divination some years back, dropped it and forgot about it.. then rekindled my interest most recently (much like Paganism). I am most interested in Tarot readings. I am learning all I can about it and well.. since I don't have a Tarot deck of my own (and who know's when I can get one... you certainly can't find one in Jamaica... that I know of (-_-);) Soooo.. I've been using a regular deck of playing cards. Which is quite fine for the minor arcana. Without the Major Arcana, I can't get readings for large scale stuff only everyday matters. So far.. my experiences with tarot has been amazingly, eerily accurate. I have even given a reading for myself, my sister and my boyfriend.. and wow... talk about scary accurate. It was great. I look forward to continuing my experiences and my research into this and I hope to get a real tarot deck in the future.
Should I tell you a little bit about my readings? Well, I have gotten many indications (more than one card) of travel and the possibility of moving to another country, including to the home of a distant family member. Which is scary accurate because I AM in the process of migrating..  and I am to stay with my aunt and uncle (who are like distant family members to me) like wow o.o.. scary right? And, there is also the indication of success in my future. I hope THAT goes according to plan (^_^); I could do with a bit of financial success. I hate being broke... well doesn't everyone? LOL.

So yeah, I believe I am getting re-energized and getting hopeful again aaaandd I am happier. ( / ^3^)/ \(^3^\ )

Um.. so yeah. Thanks for reading ^^

Sad and Confused...

Here I am sitting.. reading up some info from various websites... Nothing wrong right? ...then all of a sudden.. I feel an overwhelming desire to cry. That isn't normal. My heart feels so heavy. I am so confused. This is supposed to be a liberating experience. Why do I feel this way? I don't know why I want to cry. I don't know why my heart feels heavy.. but I think that I need to let my tears flow... (after I lock myself in my room). Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
Another thing.. I am so confused. I am a solitary pagan trying to find my way along this path. I am in a country where anything non-christian is seen as the devil's work... so I can't find help here. My boyfriend is very supportive of my choice... or should I say tolerant? He is an atheist so he really doesn't see the point but will allow me to construct an altar in his room and the like. I can only rely on an online community for interaction.. podcasts and websites for information and.. well.. I still feel alone.  I don't know how to worship the Goddess... I don't know how to pray.. I try to and I just feel like I'm either failing miserably or I am not putting out enough. I actually feel self-conscious trying to pray. Sometimes I wonder if I really believe in what I subscribe to. So many times I wonder if I really like what I say I like ... even little things like a favourite colour. I second guess myself all the time. Maybe that's why I need to cry. I want to find my spirit and animal guides... I want to find my patron goddess (I'm thinking of Bast).. It all makes sense to me.. but ... what is wrong with me?
I am constantly plagued with migraines and tension headaches for many years now.. I.. don't know...

...
................. Sigh..
More than likely no one will read this anyway...

Chakras Continued

So... It seems as if I have many closed chakras. That's not good. Although I do suffer from migraines and tension headaches VERY often... I think my crown chakra should be becoming stronger as I have found the path that I want to take. It's just a little confusing ... especially seeing as I am solitary and have no way of speaking to others about it except through online situations.
Although my partner is supportive... he still doesn't see the value in it for himself.. so I can't discuss it with him. (-_-) so most of the time .. I really feel so alone.

That's sad isn't it?

Chakras

...Sigh.. wow.

Your Root Chakra is Strong

If your Root Chakra is STRONG you are in the state where you love your career and get rewarded for being so good at it. Everybody envies you for your uncanny ability to make, save and invest money. You always have more than enough money to go on holiday and buy what you want, without feeling guilty afterwards. You always feel wanted and loved by your friends and family, and you feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror, both physically and emotionally.
If your Root Chakra is WEAK or CLOSED you tend to get stuck in an unfulfilling and unrewarding career, and you never seem to have enough money, which leaves you worried and in debt. Spending money is a harrowing experience for you, as you doubt your ability to budget effectively. You suffer from weight or body issues, which leave you feeling unworthy and uncomfortable in your own skin.

Renewed Spirituality

So I took a long quiz on www.beliefnet.com (It's a community for every religion). So.. according to my personal beliefs ... I am 100% Neo-Pagan, 85% Mahayana Buddhist and 83% Therevada Buddhist. Well I always knew I shared Pagan views and was deeply attuned to their spirituality.. Well.. I feel ... clearer somehow. So it's settled. I am not a Pagan Buddhist, I am a Buddhist Pagan. A Pagan who shares Buddhist views. Glad that's settled. :)

Lemonade and Jamaica

Previously, I mentioned that Summer's best friend was Lemonade. After all, what's more refreshing on a hot summer day than lemonade right? Well, I would like you all to meet him.

Isn't he sweet? He can be sour though.. ahaha.

The next person on the list is Jamaica (Ya-my-kah). She is a sweet girl who is friends with everyone. She loves to party and is an excellent dancer.

Tell me what you think about these two?

The Seasonal Sisters

Ok, so you remember Spring right? She has three sisters! They are Summer, Autumn and Winter. They all have contrasting personalities.
Ok! First up is the youngest sister. She happens to be the most excitable out of all the girls. Possibly because she eats too many sweets. Also, for some reason she doesn't get along well with Mocha. How can anyone not get along with Mocha? Her best friend is Lemonade (who will be featured soon).

The next sister is Autumn. She is the most generous out of the girls. She always loves to give a helping hand. She gets along with everyone as does Spring.

The last and oldest sister is Winter. She hides a shy heart under a cold demeanor. She tends to be sarcastic. Her best friend is Mocha, despite the age difference. During the warmer months, Winter can always be found hiding in the comfort of the air conditioning... but her level of comfort is very different from her sisters.

Does the winged life destroy
He who kisses the joy as it flies,

Solitude in Solitude

Meet Solitude..... well.. Solitude chibi doll. He is one of my favourite characters. I love him something fierce!!
I have a couple of drawings of him on my deviantart page and others that I have not uploaded. Solitude is a tragic character. He has a little sister named Misery. Their father was an elf and their mother a human. In their societies, that was not accepted. Solitude looks more elven and Misery looks full human. The elves decided to rid themselves of the blasphemy of Solitude's parents. So when Solitude was 5 and Misery 1, the elves raided their house and murdered the parents. They sold Solitude into slavery and Misery was given to a human family without children. ;___; poor Solitude... he has a rough life....
